When Marc Andreessen wrote his influential essay, Why Software is Eating the World, he argued that world-beating software companies would drive disruption in industries far and wide. Today many of us in Silicon Valley take for granted the power of cloud computing and the value proposition of software delivered as a service. We are still in the earliest innings of SaaS. There remains a massive amount of legacy, usually on-premise, software slowing down the productivity of businesses everywhere. When we see a pattern of brittle, bespoke applications, all doing essentially the same thing, across thousands of businesses, we see opportunity. Bespoke, legacy EDI systems are no exception.
David Ulevitch, General Partner at Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) published a recent article on this topic. He highlights the opportunity he sees in Orderful to disrupt the global supply chain through our EDI API platform, and the impetus for investing in the company. We are grateful to be working with the team at a16z and to have David on our board.
